Seit den 1990er Jahren betreibt Hanspeter Hofmann eine systematische Recherche, die den erkenntnistheoretischen Grundlagen der Malerei gilt. Gleichzeitig werden immer auch die Anforderung von Produktion und Marketing verhandelt. Mit Ausstellungen und Publikationen macht der aus den Naturwissenschaften stammende Künstler seine Forschungsresultate öffentlich. Diese künstlerische Recherche wird in einer neuen komplexen Performance für die Art Basel 2011 inszeniert und ortspezifisch überprüft. 7 Musiker, in von Hofmann entworfenen Uniformen gekleidet, spielen verschiedene Blasinstrumente und Perkussion nach einer Komposition von Hermann Bühler, die für diese Performance geschrieben wurde. 3 Fahnenschwinger, ebenfals in Uniform, schwingen Fahnen mit aufgenähten erneuerten Hofmann-Familienwappen. Mit „Fahnen und Trompeten“ verhandelt Hofmann den stets wachsenden Konkurrenzdruck in der Kunstszene einerseits und den immer stärkeren Einfluss der Unterhaltungsindustrie auf die Kunst anderseits.
Since 1990 Hanspeter Hofmann carries out a systematic research on the epistemological foundations of painting. Simultaneously he negotiates the requirements of production and marketing of art. With exhibitions and publications the artist, coming from the field of sciences, is making his research results visible to the public. A part of this artistic research will be staged as a debut performance at Art Basel 2010. 7 musicians wearing uniforms are playing several wind instruments. 3 people, also wearing uniforms are waving flags with the revised crest of the Hofmann Family. The performance will proceed as a standing formation. The composition has been written especially by Hermann Bühler for this performance. The uniforms and the flags are designed by Hanspeter Hofmann. With the performance “Mit Fahnen und Trompeten” the artist is dealing on one side with the constantly increasing competition pressure in the art scene and on the other side with the growing influence of the entertainment industry on art.
