In seiner Malerei untersucht Hanspeter Hofmann die ebenso erfolgreiche wie umstrittene Abhängigkeit eines Denkens und Malens, das sich auf unterschiedlichen Versprechungen der Malerei konzentriert und gleichzeitig immer auch die Anforderung von Produktion und Marketing verhandelt. Diese künstlerische Recherche wird in einer komplexen Grossinstallation für die Art Basel Miami 2009 neu inszeniert und ortspezifisch überprüft. Hofmanns Malerei präsentiert sich als laborhafter Zettelkasten, als Ausdifferenzierung eines aktuellen Malereidiskurses. Ein All-Over-Koordinatensystem vermisst die Wände der Ausstellungs-Koje; darauf appliziert Hofmann seine Diskursvokabeln – ca. 50 kleinformatige Gemälde, Zeichnungen, Siebdrucke und massenmediale Versatzstücke, die eine oszillierende Malerei-Kosmologie bilden.
In his painting, Hanspeter Hofmann explores the interdependence between thinking and painting, an undertaking just as successful as it is controversial, and focuses on the various promises painting makes while taking up the simultaneous and constant demands of production and marketing. This art-based research is being newly staged in a large and complex installation for Art Basel Miami Beach 2009 and site-specifically tested. Hofmann’s painting is presented as a laborious filing system, as a counterpoint in an ongoing painting debate. An allover coordinate system measures out the walls of the exhibition booth onto which Hofmann applies his vocabulary of discourse—approx. 50 small-scale paintings, drawings, silkscreen prints and mass-media set pieces that form an oscillating cosmology in paint.
